Egg Shorba

Egg Shorba is an easy and tasty dish. Usually we make egg curry with boiled eggs, but in Egg Shorba  poached egg is used. This dish tastes awesome.

Note: To make egg shorba always use Saucepan. When you drop the eggs the flame should be low.


  • Egg - 4
  • Onion - 2 medium (diced)
  • Tomato -1 medium (diced)
  • Garlic - 2-3 clove
  • Green Chilly - 2-3 (chopped)
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Red chilly powder - as per taste
  • Coriander Powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Cumin Powder - 1/5 tsp
  • Garam Masala - 1/4 tsp
  • Cumin Seed - 1/4 tsp
  • Bay leave - 1
  • Kasoori methi - 1 pinch
  • Salt as per taste.
  • Fresh Coriander Leave - 1 tsp for garnishing
  • Oil - 1 tbsp


Step 1

For gravy grind onion , tomato and garlic and make fine paste. OR

Step 2

In a pressure cooker add 1/2 cup of water add onion,tomato and garlic cover the lid keep on high flame when you hear hissing sound lower the flame and cook for 3-4 minutes. Then open the cooker and roughly mash the onion, tomato.Instead of grinding you can put directly this mashed onion in pan.

Step 3

Now heat oil in a pan, add cumin seed let it splutter,then add bay leave and chopped green chilly. Sauté for 30 seconds

Step 4

Then add onion,tomato paste or boiled & mashed onion tomato

Step 5

Fry it on medium flame for 2-3 minutes then add dry masala turmeric powder,red chilly powder,coriander powder, cumin powder garam masala and salt.

Step 6

Fry on low flame for 3-4 minutes,when oil separates add 2 cups of water .

Step 7

When it starts boiling lower the flame and cook for 1 minute. Add kasoori methi.

Step 8

Then crack an egg in a bowl.Holding the bowl just above the surface of the gravy,gently slip the egg into the simmering gravy.

Step 9

Repeat it with the remaining eggs. Cover the lid and cook the eggs until whites are firm and yolk is thickened and hard.

Step 10

Once eggs are cooked check the consistency of the gravy.If gravy is thick add little water, and if it is runny cook on high flame so that gravy dries up a little.

Step 11

Garnish with fresh coriander leave and serve EGG SHORBA with any Indian bread or rice.
